MRKT SPACE Community Market + Café Now Open In Encinitas
MRKT SPACE offers a café, restaurant, cocktail bar, and corner-store market all in one great location in North County San Diego on Encinitas' Highway 101.
MRKT SPACE, a new community storefront combining a gourmet food market, café, restaurant and cocktail bar, has opened in the heart of Encinitas' Leucadia neighborhood on the 101. First launched in Australia, owner Matt Power has brought the successful concept to Southern California. MRKT SPACE's mission is to provide local residents with an all-day café plus a gourmet market so you can get a healthy bite to eat or drink at any time of the day.
“Everything you see here is what I eat and drink,” said Giorgio Saturnino, MRKT SPACE's head of operations. “We want you to stay as healthy as possible - that's the key and what's important to us.”
Local, Organic, Vegetarian + Gluten-Free Offerings
Every product, café item and restaurant menu selection at MRKT SPACE has been hand-selected for its high-quality ingredients and in many cases, because it's a local business.
“We are very focused on being local and integrating with the local community,” said Saturnino. He zipped around the storefront on a mission, running from shelf to shelf and introducing me to dozens of local, healthy foodstuffs I hadn't known about.
“Oh, you HAVE to try this bread - Plantiful! It's made by a lovely woman in Carlsbad, all gluten-free, absolutely delicious,” he raved. (I did try the bread - he was right. It was both delicious and moist, which can be hard to accomplish with gluten-free flour.) All of MRKT SPACE's café sandwiches can be made with Plantiful Kitchen gluten-free bread.
The café also serves freshly baked pastries from Hommage Bakehouse, plus several gluten-free and vegan pastries. Although the coffee is a blend from Australia, the beans are roasted in La Mesa. The restaurant menu also features several vegetarian selections including a gorgeous burrata salad (big portions of burrata!), flatbreads, sandwiches and cheese boards.
Community Events + Gathering Table Space
I also had conveniently stopped by during a wine tasting event put on by a local wine distributor. “75% of our wines are organic,” said Saturnino. MRKT SPACE features a large wine selection with many California wines, including the M Vino Rose and The Barrel Red Blend featured at the tasting.
MRKT SPACE's knowledgeable and helpful staff can curate a gift basket for a friend's birthday or pack you a picnic basket with sandwiches, snacks and beverages to take to nearby Beacon's Beach for a day in the sun.

In addition to this new spot in Encinitas, owner Matt Power is has plans for two other MRKT SPACE locations in La Jolla Shores and Rancho Santa Fe.
